Heads turned as Ev Bessar showed her Fall/Winter 2016 collection at NYFW. Her extensive collection featured both menswear and womenswear, showcasing a unisex collection that perfectly blurred gender lines.
Her collection featured various shades of dark neutral grays, blacks and whites. The dark colors contributed to an almost ominous, other worldly feeling. Since Bessar utilized a lot of dark, similar neutral colors, she relied on silhouettes, detailing and texture to distinguish her designs. She took grunge to the next level by using fraying, distressing and oversize, baggy silhouettes in the collection. There was a major rough and tumble, edgy vibe to this collection enhanced by the sort of "I don't care" attitude of the models. The smoky red eye makeup and disheveled hairstyles of the models only added to the collection.
What made the collection even more interesting was the fact that Bessar decided to combine her grunge-y designs with luxurious fabrics such as gorgeous knits, leather and fur. It created a distinct contrast that only added to the uniqueness of the collection. The intricate textures of the fabrics and designs that Bessar utilized was prominent in every look that strutted down the black feather-covered runway. It added another dimension to her collection that allowed her to take grunge to another level.
